Replacement term of a melting tablet in SECUMAR lifejacket

A melting tablet of a life jacket should, after water contact, blow. In normal use it is synchronized with the 24 monthly testing. By intensive use; follow the regulations such as SOLAS and during other demanding conditions, the term can be limited to 12 months. For a long trip, or extremely wet weather, the interim replacement of a tablet is recommended.

If the melting tablet is not being replaced “in time”, the tablet doesn’t cause any safety risk. It only causes a problem by a spontaneous inflation in the wallet, as the lifejacket inflates itself without an accident. In this case, the CO2 cartridge needs also replacing. After this when the jacket has been vented again, the lifejacket must be folded according to the instructions.
